Kimberly is currently in her 29th year of service in education. She began her career in 1994 as a Kindergarten teacher in the Newport News Public School System in Newport News, VA. After
only three years of teaching Kindergarten, Kimberly developed a strong desire to work with
under-privileged, economically disadvantaged children who struggled to read, so she applied for
and acquired a reading specialist position, as a Reading Recovery Teacher within Newport News Public Schools.

In 2000, Kimberly moved to Wake County, NC with her family and joined the Wake County
Public School System. In Wake County Public Schools, Kimberly has served as a Title I Reading Specialist, a Title I District Support Reading Specialist, Assistant Principal, and Principal. She currently serves as the Wake County Public School System’s, Director of Title I Programs.

Over the past 29 years in her career, Kimberly has stayed true to her calling to serve in the field
of education. Growing up as a child in rural, eastern NC, Kimberly knows first-hand the
importance of ensuring students from all zipcodes have equitable access to quality education. In
her daily work, she is a part of helping students understand that their environments do not have
to dictate their futures!
