Research shows that mindfulness lowers stress, improves focus, increases self-awareness, supports emotional self-regulation and more. In addition, families who embrace and practice mindfulness, communicate more effectively; reduce habitually negative reactions to one another, increase empathy and compassion toward each other and strengthen unity and collaboration. Engaging families in mindfulness practices will not only help enhance family connectedness but increase the overall health and well-being of families and the school community as a whole. This session will expand upon the research and benefits of mindfulness, introduce mindfulness practices for hands-on learning and share how to incorporate these strategies into FACE activities and programming. Attendees will also craft a short plan to introduce mindfulness practices to families, students and the total school community.
