The Fatherhood Crisis Culture, Community and Education

This workshop explores the fatherhood crisis in America through the lens of culture, community, and education. Participants will examine historical shifts in fatherhood roles, from early agrarian society to today’s challenges, with a focus on how economic, social, and cultural factors have shaped father involvement. Key issues such as father absenteeism, its impacts on communities—particularly communities of color—and its effects on child development will be addressed. The session will highlight current trends in father engagement, from government programs to technological solutions, and evaluate strategies for fostering active, supportive father roles. Participants will gain tools to engage fathers directly in classrooms and integrate them into the school community, building a positive, collaborative environment for children’s success.
