Have you ever looked at a person and made an assumption based on your impression of their appearance or who you thought they were. Perhaps, in that fleeting moment, your mind crafted a narrative, weaving together fragments of experience, culture, and bias—often without a single word exchanged. Unfortunately, families believe that educators do just that. Beneath those snap judgments, there is always so much more—layers of history, hope, and individuality waiting to be discovered. In this session, the presenter and attendees will discuss implicit bias and how it affects our relationships with families that we wish to partner with.
