Dr. Stacey Owens is an award-winning educator, trainer, and entrepreneur whose career in education began in 1994 as a third-grade teacher. During her teaching tenure, she earned National Board Certification, was named Teacher of the Year in 1998, and was recognized as a State Finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Elementary Mathematics and Science Teaching in 2000.
In 2009, Dr. Owens embraced her calling to serve at-risk children by founding Z.E.C.A., Inc. (Zero to Eighteen Education Concept Academy), a community initiative providing comprehensive services for children from birth to age eighteen. Under her leadership, Z.E.C.A., Inc. established the ZECA School of Arts and Technology, a K–8 public charter school offering families in Onslow County an innovative school choice. Her entrepreneurial journey further expanded with her certification as a personal development coach, the launch of Creatinz, and most recently the founding of Georgetown High: A Village-Minded Academy, a private trade and technical high school.
Dr. Owens earned her Master of School Administration from her alma mater, North Carolina Central University, and completed post-graduate certificates in Leadership and Accountability and Curriculum and Instruction at Capella University. She holds an Ed.D. from Northcentral University, where she published her dissertation on student–teacher relationships.
A prolific author, Dr. Owens has written seven books. Beyond her professional achievements, she treasures her role as mother to Zechari Owens and Alexis Owens, and as “Mimi” to Eden “Gabby” Owens and Alayah Post.
