Dr. Edgar Alfonzo

Director of Parent Engagement
Minneapolis Public Schools

Dr. Edgar Alfonzo is a Venezuelan-American educator with over 25 years of experience
spanning early childhood through higher education. He has lived in the Twin Cities for more than
two decades and currently serves as Director of Parent Engagement for Minneapolis Public
Schools, a role he has held since 2021.

A former teacher and principal, Dr. Alfonzo brings a deep commitment to equity, inclusion, and
authentic family-school partnerships. His research and district work center on reducing systemic
barriers to Latino family engagement and building capacity for schools to connect with families
as co-educators and leaders in student success.

In his current role, he also leads initiatives focused on improving school climate, helping schools
create welcoming, culturally affirming environments where all students and families feel seen,
heard, and valued.
