Dr. Carolyn S. F. Silva is an Assistant Professor at the University of Nevada, Reno. Dr. Silva’s scholarship speaks to the foundations of race, ethnicity, and diversity across educational contexts. More specifically, her research examines 1) the educational experiences of Latinx and AfroLatinx populations; 2) critical approaches to Latinidad and ethno-racial discourses in educational research, and 3) critical approaches to social studies in teacher education. As a former elementary teacher in Latin America, Dr. Silva spent over a decade working with culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse students and partnering with local organizers, educators, and families on community-based initiatives grounded in anti-colonial and abolitionist education.
