As the Neighborhood Manager of two LINC communities, Alma supports Inwood and Washington Heights families through engaging early literacy programming. In this role, Alma supervises a team of Family and Community Engagement Specialists. She also serves as a bridge between families and community partners, connecting families to needed local resources and services. Alma first came to LINC as a parent participant, learning about LINC from a Very Involved Parent (VIP) who was her daughter’s classmate’s mom. Alma then became a VIP herself before joining our staff. Prior to her time at LINC Alma was an elementary school teacher with a special focus in biology in Puebla, Mexico. She loves music and reading, especially books with a positive message or ones about ecology. Her favorite children’s books are “Love You Forever” by Robert Munsch and “Pigeon Needs a Bath!” by Mo Willems. Alma is passionate about empowering families. She is always looking for fun ways for parents to fall in love with reading and use it as a fundamental tool to improve their children’s future. She works hard with her team to ensure that reading reaches every corner of Inwood and Washington Heights. Alma was born and raised in Puebla, Mexico. She is a mother of three girls that love to cuddle with mom for read-aloud time.
